Happy Friday good people. Welcome to March! Spring is around the corner, and our two-month free trial into 2024 is now over. Are you ready to kick into high gear like I am?
Let’s get it.
thoughts at large.
There has been a lot of news this week but none has captured social media’s attention like the latest lawsuit against Diddy, at least in my corner of the internet. If the news missed you, Sean Combs is facing another sexual harassment lawsuit, and this time it’s been filed by a man who worked on his most recent album as a producer. This is significant because, the other lawsuits filed (by Cassie, and another unnamed woman) make allegations of misconduct that are decades old. The most recent lawsuit makes claims of improper and criminal activities as recently as fall 2023.
You can read more about the lawsuit here.
It’s salacious (also kind of unprofessionally written 😬,) the kind of thing that creates internet fodder and has people talking about everything but what’s most important - like crimes. Instead, people have zeroed in on the fact that these acts were perpetrated against a man. Not that Diddy is an alleged predator and trafficker, no. It’s more important that he could also be attracted to men. [sarcasm]
This is the thing - I read the majority of the lawsuit itself and what was included was terrifying to me. It tells a story of a man that used his considerable power to perpetrate horrific acts against people that worked for him. If the allegations are proven to be true, it could open the floodgates to a “Me Too” like movement in hip-hop. For me the hyper-focus on sexuality is concerning. It leaves me wondering, did you all not just read about all of the drugging, solicitation, gun violence, and sexual assault - or are you ignoring it to discuss the potential of bi-sexuality? Like the worst thing he could ever do is be attracted to a man? Please be serious. We gotta grow up.
We’ll have to explore why some Black men excuse the violence, misogyny and drug abuse of their peers, but draw the line at the implication of homosexuality another day. 🙃
The truth of the matter is - I’ve been concerned about distractions since we began this election cycle. Did you know that this week, the Supreme Court agreed to take up Donald Trump’s Presidential Immunity case, effectively putting the criminal proceedings against him in New York and Georgia on hold? Do you know that they won’t hear arguments in the case until sometime in April and might not have a decision until late June? Do you know that that will significantly delay the process of those criminal trials, including the election stealing RICO case in Fulton County, to the point that they may not be complete before election day in November, effectively paving the way for him to escape those charges if he wins? Why aren’t we talking about THAT? I feel like the grandpa shaking his fists at the clouds right now. Like, hello? Is it only me that sees this?
Things are happening all around us, and while I know that many of us use laughter as a tool for overcoming oppression, I do think that there’s a time for us to pay a little more attention to things that are actually consequential. And that time is now.
What do you think? Am I overreacting?
need you to know.

This is the first I'm hearing about the lawsuit against Diddy. I've restricted some of the news I read/listen to because I need to be at peace. We seem to not looking at the whole picture. Caught up on the wrong details. I don't care about people's sex life anymore. But this is a long time coming. I am still not down with the "bitches and hoes" etc from hip hop. Some apologies need to be made to black women. And yes,we need a 'me too' moment for hip. More than a moment.
I am aware of the Supreme Court taking up Trump's case. I cannot get away from those headlines even if I don't read the story. We're getting lost in the weeds with what we're focusing on.
