headlines:
I’d like to start by honoring the legendary Hank Aaron who passed away this morning at the age of 86. Not only was he one of the all-time great MLB players, but he was also a freedom fighter. We are forever indebted to him and grateful for his sacrifice.
inauguration 2021:
On Tuesday - the Presidential Inaugural Committee led a moment of unity to remember more than 400,000 people who have lost their lives to COVID-19. In the ceremony, they lit the reflection pool at the Lincoln Memorial, and cities around the country joined in by illuminating their skylines and ringing church bells.
This was the lead in to Wednesday’s monumental inauguration of President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala Devi Harris. They are both history makers, as Biden becomes the oldest President, and Harris becomes the first woman to hold a national office.
I was super grateful to see that the Inauguration was relatively uneventful. In fact, the highlight for me was seeing Vice President Harris’ nephew-in-law Nikolas Ajagu wearing the Dior Air Jordan 1s on the Capitol steps. Twitter has since named him The Secretary of Drip.
President Biden wasted no time after being sworn in. In fact, he signed 17 executive orders on Wednesday afternoon, effectively undoing some of the things that former President Trump put in place. You can check out a list of all of President Biden’s EOs, covering everything from COVID to the Paris Climate Accord, here.
covid failures:
Speaking of COVID, the City of Houston was in the news over the MLK weekend after a series of parties forced the Fire Marshall to close down a popular nightclub. Yes, big club parties are still a thing in the middle of a panny. This one, in particular, sparked a weird Twitter beef between Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner & rapper Bow Wow.
I’m truly shaking my head at this scene. As a note: Bow Wow & Mayor Turner have squashed their beef. If you cared.
pretrial in the nipsey hussle murder case:
Yesterday, Eric Holder, the man accused of killing rapper/activist Nipsey Hussle and wounding two others, appeared in court. Holder’s case has been pushed back several times due to the pandemic, and will be pushed back again due to the retirement of the judge set to preside over the case.
Thinking about Nipsey’s contributions to his community brought me to these questions: what is your legacy? How do you want people to remember you? Is it important to you to have something that will live beyond you? What are you doing to solidify that, right now? I want to hear from you. So do me a favor - send me a voice note by clicking HERE. I may even share what you have to say in next week’s podcast.
you should know:
Stress is something that is natural, but it’s also something that needs to be managed. On this week’s episode of the podcast, I spoke with my friend and wellness expert Tie Street about ways we can manage our stress without spiraling out of control. One of the tips she mentioned was journaling, and she’s got a great stress journal to help you out. You can grab it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Dave Chappelle has the ‘Rona. He was scheduled to do a series of shows in Austin, Texas, but those have since been cancelled. He was recently seen turning up with Elon Musk, Joe Rogan and Grimes… so there’s that.
