creative refresh
a few thoughts on what to do when you're not feeling creative + reads & vibes for your weekend.
Here we are on another Friday! Welcome back!
thoughts at large.
Last weekend, Frank Ocean headlined the first weekend of Coachella. It was his first time performing in public in several years, and many fans were extremely excited to see him. Many of those fans left the show disappointed though. He was late, he often let the track play instead of him actually singing, and then there were long (multiple-minute long) silent pauses between his songs. It just wasn’t a good look. He’s dropped out this week because apparently, he injured his leg, but I think it’s deeper than that. Frank lost his younger brother a few years ago and Coachella was a special time that they often shared together. I think he may have rushed getting back in the saddle.
I share this to say, each one of us has a bit of creativity in us. Even if you don’t feel like you’re creative, you are. You make things out of nothing. You are a problem solver and a leader. That’s something you should be proud of.
There may be times when we struggle to come up with fresh ideas or feel uninspired, though. This can be frustrating, but it's important to remember that everyone experiences creative blocks occasionally.
So, what can we do to refresh our creative minds and get back to producing the work we love? Here are a few tips to help you reignite your creative spark:
Take a break: Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your creativity is to take a step back and give yourself a break. Take a day off, go for a walk, or spend time doing something completely unrelated to your work. This can help you clear your mind and come back with fresh eyes.
Change your environment: Sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for your creativity. Try working in a new space or simply rearrange your workspace to create a different atmosphere.
Find inspiration from others: Take a look at the work of other creators in your field or even outside of it. This can help you spark new ideas or take a fresh approach to your work.
Experiment: Challenge yourself to try something new or different. This can help you break out of your creative rut and find new ways to approach your work.
Collaborate: Consider collaborating with another creator or working with a team. This can help you bounce ideas off of others and find new perspectives.
Remember, creativity is a process, and it's okay to have moments where you feel stuck. Use these tips to help refresh your creative mind and get back to producing your best work.
I was super impressed this week seeing the creativity that came out of the Fear of God fashion show at the Hollywood Bowl. Jerry Lorenzo, the founder & designer, is one of my favorite creatives. He always pushes the envelope - even when that push is to simplicity. See more about the show here.

Great reminder today that we all possess creativity. It is the essence of our Creator that lives in each of us though it manifests differently. We must "know thy self", and when we do we will seek to live that greatness that exists within us.
Continue the great work!
