Over the past few weeks, it feels as if the world has been flipped upside down.
I am not mad at that, at all. Sometimes the only way to wake someone up is to shake them, and that’s exactly what has happened.
I’d like to be the first to welcome you to News, Now, Nxt… my first phase of a reimagining of the newsroom. Like we’re doing with so many other things right now, I think it’s beyond time for a refresh on the media industry. But Why?
Well, honestly, it’s too white.
According to a 2018 study conducted by the Columbia Journalism Review, 83% of the journalists in America are white. This might be passable if this were reflective of the demographics in our country but, even then that would mean that only 63% of the newsroom should be white. The disparity is real.
I’m looking forward to being a part of the wave of change. It starts here.
Each Wednesday, expect a newsletter filled with news you should know, a look at what’s happening now, and what you should look forward to coming next.
Welcome to the revolution!
